Rosewood Hotels and Resorts opened AMAALA in March 2026, an ultra-luxury property on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast designed around the concept of regenerative travel.
The resort features villas and suites with private pools, a marine biology center, and wellness programming that integrates the natural desert and coastal environment. Activities include diving in coral reef systems that are among the least disturbed in the world, desert excursions, and stargazing from one of the region's darkest skies.
AMAALA is part of Saudi Arabia's NEOM and Red Sea development corridor, a multi-billion-dollar tourism infrastructure push aimed at diversifying the kingdom's economy away from oil. Several other luxury brands — including Six Senses, Banyan Tree, and Aman — have properties under development in the same zone.
The opening is significant for the region's positioning in the ultra-luxury travel market. Saudi Arabia is betting that its Red Sea coastline can compete with established diving and beach destinations like the Maldives and the Great Barrier Reef.
Visa requirements for tourists have been simplified — visitors from 63 countries can now obtain e-visas online. Direct flights to the AMAALA region are expected to increase as the nearby airport expands through 2027.
