Western Sydney Airport opens with first Jetstar passenger flight

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport opened to passengers on October 25, with Jetstar operating the first commercial passenger flight to the Gold Coast.

Melbourne is also on the opening-day schedule. Jetstar's JQ375 is scheduled to depart Western Sydney for Melbourne at 6 p.m., according to October 25 coverage.

The airport will operate around the clock without a curfew. That allows flights to arrive and depart at any time, rather than within restricted operating hours.

International service is set to follow on October 26, with Air New Zealand's Auckland route. A direct Singapore service is scheduled to start on November 23.

Domestic and international passengers use the same terminal. Its 40 self-service check-in kiosks and 34 bag drops work across airlines, so passengers do not need to find an airline-specific check-in area.
