Airbnb limits checkout chores for bookings made from November 20

Airbnb is limiting the checkout chores hosts can request. Its house rules policy applies to reservations booked on or after November 20, 2026.

Hosts generally cannot ask guests to strip beds, take trash offsite, or wash and put away dishes. The limits cover tasks requiring significant time or effort, or work typically done by a cleaner.

All rules and requests must appear in the listing's designated section when guests book. Hosts cannot add new ones afterward through messages, signs in the home or in-person instructions.

Hosts also generally cannot restrict access to advertised features. Fees for those features must be included in the price shown at booking.

Exceptions may reflect local conditions. Airbnb gives examples such as limiting showers during drought restrictions or putting trash in animal-proof containers in bear country.

Persistent violations can lead to a listing notice or reduced search visibility. Guests who encounter requests that breach the policy can report them to Airbnb.
