Set up two-factor authentication

On this page

Two-factor authentication adds a code from your authenticator app when TrekGuider asks you to confirm access. Set it up while you can reach your account email and have your authenticator available.

Set it up

  1. Open Account Settings and go to Security.
  2. Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
  3. If asked, verify your email before continuing.
  4. Scan the displayed QR code with your authenticator app. If scanning does not work, use the Manual setup key in the app's manual entry option.
  5. Save the backup codes somewhere private that you can reach if you lose your phone.
  6. Enter your current password if the form asks for it.
  7. Enter the Code from your new authenticator, confirm I have saved my backup codes, and finish the setup.

Wait for the confirmation that two-factor authentication is enabled.

Keep your recovery options

A backup code lets you sign in when you cannot use your authenticator. Each code works once. Keep the codes separate from a device you might lose, and do not include them in screenshots you share.

You can use Replace backup codes in Account Settings when you need a new recovery sheet. Keep the replacement set and stop relying on the old one.

If setup does not finish

Read the message shown beside the form. Check that the code comes from the new TrekGuider entry you just added. If the setup window has expired, reopen it from settings and follow the current instructions.

Never send your QR code, setup key, authenticator code, or backup codes to support.
