Sign in with a backup code

A backup code is one of the recovery codes you saved when you enabled two-factor authentication. Each code can be used once.

Use a saved code

  1. Start signing in to your TrekGuider account as usual.
  2. When asked for an authenticator code, choose Use backup code. You may also be shown a separate Use a backup code window.
  3. Enter one unused code from your saved set.
  4. Finish signing in.

Using a backup code does not turn off two-factor authentication. Mark that code as used so you do not try it again later.

If you lost your authenticator

After signing in, open Account Settings and review Security. Use Set Up a New Authenticator when that recovery option is available, then follow its prompts and save the new backup codes.

A recovery session can expire. If you are asked to confirm access again, follow the sign-in or recovery instructions shown on the page.

If a code is rejected

Check that you copied a complete code from the correct account's recovery sheet and that it has not already been used. Do not keep trying the same used code.

If you have no usable authenticator or backup codes left, choose No backup codes left? or Get help signing in in the sign-in window. Support will explain the available recovery process; a password reset by itself does not remove two-factor authentication.

Keep the contents of your recovery sheet private, including when reporting a sign-in problem.
