American Airlines to Launch Dallas-Fort Worth to Athens Nonstop on May 21
American Airlines will launch daily nonstop service between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Athens International Airport on May 21, the carrier's only truly new international route this summer.
The 10-hour-50-minute flight will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with seats in business class, premium economy, main cabin extra, and main cabin. The aircraft is one of American's longer-range fleet types and carries about 285 passengers per flight.
Athens has become a fast-growing transatlantic destination, with summer demand rising steadily since 2023 as Greek island traffic from American cities outpaced the airline's connecting capacity through European hubs. Direct service from DFW shortens the journey by three to four hours compared to connections through London, Frankfurt, or Madrid.
The route is seasonal, scheduled through October before pausing for the winter. American is positioning Athens as a complement to its existing Greek summer service from JFK and Philadelphia. Tourism officials in Greece expect onward connections to the Cyclades and Crete to drive load factors during peak July and August weeks.
Inaugural round-trip fares started near $1,400 in main cabin and $5,000 in business. Award seats are available for 60,000 AAdvantage miles each way in main cabin during shoulder weeks. Bookings are open through the American Airlines site and trusted travel platforms.
