Understand tax reporting, form fees, and withholding
On this page
Your seller tax details and an annual payment report do different jobs. Completing one does not mean TrekGuider has filed your personal tax return or paid every tax you may owe.
Know which document you are looking at
- W-9: details and certification requested from a US individual seller.
- W-8BEN: foreign-status details requested from an eligible non-US individual seller, with an optional treaty claim.
- Form 1099-K: an annual report of payment transactions, when issued for your account.
Keep records of your sales, refunds, fees, and payouts. A payment-reporting total is not automatically your taxable profit or the amount available to withdraw.
A form request is different from an IRS reporting threshold
TrekGuider may request tax details before a withdrawal or as your account requires them. That request does not, by itself, mean a Form 1099-K must be issued.
The IRS currently describes the federal marketplace reporting threshold as payments over $20,000 and more than 200 transactions. Forms can also be issued below that threshold. Check the current IRS Form 1099-K guidance rather than treating a tax-detail request as a promise about annual reporting.
Not receiving a form does not, by itself, make earnings tax-free. Your own reporting obligations can still apply.
Fees and withholding are different
The currently published annual Form 1099-K service fee is $2.99 USD, when applicable. Check the amount and year recorded on your account if its terms have changed.
A 1099-K processing fee in your activity is a platform tax-reporting charge, not income tax withheld for you. The fee entry does not by itself confirm that an annual form is already available. Ask support about an unclear charge.
A W-8BEN treaty-rate field is a claim, not a guarantee of a particular withholding rate or exemption. Do not assume form approval settles every US or home-country tax obligation.
Find a form or correct your details
Use Documents for available copies and Annual tax forms when offered. Follow any tax-name or identification-number correction request through the designated account form. Send support the notice, not your full tax identifier.
