Finnair launches daily Melbourne flights via Bangkok

Finnair has launched its first Australian route, linking Helsinki and Melbourne via Bangkok. The inaugural flight arrived in Melbourne on October 26, 2026.

The daily service operates year-round. The Helsinki-Melbourne journey takes around 24 hours, including the Bangkok stop, so travelers should not mistake it for a nonstop flight.

Finnair uses Airbus A350 aircraft on the route, with business class, premium economy and economy seating. Two seating configurations are scheduled, so cabin sizes vary.

The published schedule lists flight AY145 arriving in Melbourne at 7:20 a.m. The return service, AY146, leaves Melbourne at 3:30 p.m., reaching Helsinki the following morning after Bangkok.

Travelers can also buy tickets just between Bangkok and Melbourne. That adds a separate option for Thailand-Australia trips, without continuing to or from Finland.
