Understand a subscription first-payment refund guarantee

On this page

Some subscription products offer a money-back guarantee on the first payment. It applies only when the offer includes that guarantee. It does not turn every subscription charge into a refundable purchase.

Check the terms you bought

Before subscribing, read the product's guarantee badge and refund terms. After purchase, open My Purchases > Subscriptions and find the product.

An applicable guarantee shows its number of days and Request by date, or the status of a request already made. The window starts with the original purchase payment. The terms recorded for that purchase apply even if the seller later changes the offer.

Renewals are not covered. Changing your tier or billing period does not make an ordinary renewal a new first payment. If a discount made the first period free, there is no collected first payment to refund and the guarantee does not move to a later renewal.

Request a refund within the window

Select Request refund when offered beside the subscription's guarantee. Explain the reason, check the details, and submit once. Follow the existing request rather than opening repeated requests for the same payment.

The request can need review. Its deadline does not promise when an approved payment reaches your original payment source. If the page says manual review is needed or a payment dispute pauses the request, contact support about that existing purchase.

Know what each action changes

Cancel Subscription stops future renewals; it does not refund the first payment. A full refund of the covered first payment ends the subscription and removes access through that subscription, including any last-version access it otherwise provided.

A pending refund request is not the same as a completed refund. Check its status before assuming that access or billing has changed.

If you sell subscriptions

Under Traveler Protection, select Offer a money-back guarantee on the first payment, then choose a 7, 14, 30, or 90-day window. Review the customer preview before submitting. Changes apply to future purchases; they do not rewrite earlier buyers' refund terms.
