About

In 2020, on the global stage of NBC’s World of Dance, a French crew of four men from the suburbs of Paris achieved the unthinkable. Before a panel of judges that included Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough, they clinched the Season 4 title and its massive $1 million prize. They are Les Sancho, a collective whose journey from the Juste Debout dance school to international acclaim is a carefully documented ascent built on raw talent, strategic branding, and a complex corporate structure that belies their image of simple unity. Their story is defined by their powerful slogan: “Danse, Partage, Voyage” (Dance, Share, Travel).

Les Sancho: How It Started

The origin of Les Sancho dates to September 2016, a meeting of minds and bodies at the famed Juste Debout School in Paris. The founding trio—Aboulaye, known as Kilo (born December 19, 1993, from La Courneuve, of Senegalese/Malian heritage, 185 cm); Sonny, or P.Fly (born April 11, 1994, from Saint-Denis, of Guadeloupean heritage, 180 cm); and Vensley, called Teddy (born January 1, 1993, from Bobigny, of Haitian heritage, 175 cm)—bonded over a shared passion that transcended technique. Their group’s name is a deliberate fusion of cultural references: “San,” the Japanese word for three, nods to both manga aesthetics and their original number, while “Sancho” evokes Sancho Panza, the loyal companion from Don Quixote, and serves as a slang term for “bros.”

Before global fame, their careers were rooted in the foundational work of the French dance scene: teaching classes and performing in music videos for prominent artists like Aya Nakamura and Keblack. Their public breakthrough came in 2017 when they reached the semi-finals of Season 12 of La France a un incroyable talent (France’s Got Talent), introducing their unique style to a national audience. This momentum carried them to a crucial victory in 2019, when they won the French championship of the prestigious World of Dance (WOD) competition.

This national title was their ticket to the American-produced NBC television version of WOD in 2020. Their victory there was a seismic event, instantly making them millionaires and one of France’s most significant cultural exports. It was in the wake of this triumph that the group officially expanded. Jean-Joseph, known as Jojo (born January 16, 1996, from Épinay-sur-Seine, of Haitian heritage, 176 cm), a long-time friend and collaborator, was integrated, solidifying the four-man lineup that defines Les Sancho today.

Les Sancho Content: Evolution and Style

Les Sancho’s choreographic identity is a potent blend of styles often labeled “afro-fusion,” a dynamic synthesis of hip-hop new style, dancehall, and various African dance vernaculars. Their early content on platforms like YouTube reflected the raw energy of their origins—unpolished dance videos, battle footage, and workshop tutorials.

The influx of capital and visibility from their World of Dance win catalyzed a significant evolution. While their core dance identity remained, their content strategy broadened dramatically. Production values soared. Their digital presence expanded to include high-concept comedy skits, professionally edited vlogs documenting their travels, and a savvy adoption of trending challenges on TikTok. This pivot transformed them from pure-play dancers into multifaceted entertainers, all while reinforcing the “Danse, Partage, Voyage” ethos that had become their trademark.

How Les Sancho Makes Money

The $1 million prize from WOD served as a powerful seed investment, but the group’s financial model is diversified. Revenue streams include earnings from live performances and international tours, fees from conducting dance workshops globally, YouTube AdSense from their digital content, and lucrative brand partnerships.

Behind the creative enterprise lies a specific and telling legal framework. On February 26, 2021, the group’s commercial activities were consolidated under a registered French company: “LES SANCHO.” Corporate records analysis, however, reveals a critical detail. The entity is structured as a SASU (Société par actions simplifiée unipersonnelle). A SASU is, by legal definition, a single-shareholder simplified joint-stock company. This structure is fundamentally at odds with the public-facing image of a four-member equal partnership. It indicates that, from a legal and financial perspective, control of the Les Sancho brand is vested in a single individual, a fact that could present a significant risk of internal conflict in the future.

Les Sancho's Network

The group’s professional network was forged both in the French music industry and on the international competition circuit. Their early work placed them in collaboration with French musical heavyweights Aya Nakamura and Keblack. Their participation in World of Dance catapulted them into an entirely different echelon of the global entertainment industry, putting them in direct professional contact with the show’s celebrity judges: Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough. This exposure not only validated their talent but also embedded them within a powerful network of industry players.

Les Sancho: Public Reception

The public perception of Les Sancho is overwhelmingly positive. In France and abroad, they are celebrated as aspirational figures who have brought French street dance to the world stage. They are widely regarded as role models for young, aspiring dancers, particularly from immigrant communities in the Parisian suburbs from which they hail. Their narrative of hard work, brotherhood, and artistic integrity has remained untarnished by public controversy, allowing them to maintain an authentic and positive connection with their fanbase.

Philanthropy and Impact

While the dossier does not detail specific, large-scale philanthropic initiatives, Les Sancho’s primary impact lies in their cultural ambassadorship and their commitment to the “Partage” (Share) element of their motto. Through their extensive international workshops, they actively teach and mentor young dancers, transferring skills and inspiring a new generation. They have made the journey from the banlieues of Paris to global recognition seem achievable, serving as a powerful source of inspiration and demonstrating a tangible pathway to success through artistic dedication.

Les Sancho Today

Today, Les Sancho have successfully navigated the treacherous transition from competition winners to enduring entertainers. In the post-pandemic era, they have continued to innovate, launching their own stage show, “Au-delà des rêves” (Beyond Dreams), to further cement their live performance credentials. By consistently producing high-quality content for TikTok and YouTube, they maintain their digital relevance and connection to a global audience. Les Sancho are no longer just a dance crew; they are a multi-platform brand, a French success story, and a reflection of the power of transforming raw talent into a sustainable global enterprise.
