Venice Raises Day-Tripper Entry Fee to 10 Euros Starting April 3
Venice is raising the stakes in its fight against overtourism. Starting April 3, 2026, day-trippers aged 14 and older will pay up to 10 euros to enter the historic center on designated high-traffic days.
Visitors who book at least four days ahead pay 5 euros. Those who show up without a reservation face the full 10-euro charge. The system builds on the pilot program launched in 2024, which originally charged a flat 5 euros.
The fee applies only on peak days — primarily weekends and holidays during spring and summer — and does not affect guests staying overnight in registered accommodations, who already pay a separate tourist tax.
City officials say the revenue will fund infrastructure maintenance and crowd management technology, including real-time visitor counters at key entry points. Last year, the pilot generated over 2.4 million euros across 29 enforcement days.
Venice is part of a broader European trend. Barcelona has doubled its accommodation tax, Edinburgh is introducing a visitor levy, and Amsterdam raised its tourist tax to 12.5 percent. For travelers planning summer trips to these cities, budgeting for entry and overnight fees is now essential.
